Pasacao Mayor cites economic gains

NAGA CITY, Oct. 14 (PIA)—The coastal town of Pasacao is not only known for its idyllic beaches and wide-stretch of coastlines but also for its rich resources and its growing economy manifested by various infrastructure projects and accessible road networks.

During the Network Briefing News (NBN) program hosted by Office of the Global Media and Public Affairs (OGMPA) Asec. JV Arcena, Oct.12, Tuesday over PTV 4, Pasacao Mayor Niño Tayco cited the various infrastructure projects that now serve as “gateway” to various businesses and provided job opportunities for Pasaqueños.

“We have the new circumferential road which allowed us to decongest traffic in Pasacao. Through this, we have accessibility to adjacent barangays in our municipality. This also created employment and tourism possibilities,” Tayco said.

The local chief executive also added that this is just the Phase I of the said project.  They have an ongoing project under Phase II which consist of the creation of road from the Central Business District I leading to the signature park where Pasacao’s new Central Business District II is located. The central terminal will be part of the CBD II. This is also the proposed site for the new government center and location of the proposed municipal hall.

Aside from the development of road networks, Tayco said that the construction of the Pasacao National High School is also a big help to Pasaqueños.

“This is a big help to students in our highland barangays. Before, after they graduate from elementary, they would just decide to find jobs in Manila or would stop schooling since they don’t have access to higher education,” Tayco added.

Students from Barangays Tilnac, Salvacion, San Antonio, and part of Tinalmud in Pasacao will have access to Pasacao National High School with the help of DepEd and the provincial government. The municipality also constructed the Antipolo Integrated High School in 2014 where 3 upland barangays will also be benefited.

Under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program, Tayco said that they have included a 200-hectare industrial zone as approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan under their Comprehensive Land Use plan.

Tayco also mentioned that part of their economy’s growth can be attributed to their rich sea resources.

Aside from tuna, yellowfin and lapu-lapu, other fish species such as small pelagic fish like galunggong, burao, tulingan, matambaka, sardines, and salinyasi also abound in their seas. They are not just sold in their local markets, but are also brought in their neighboring towns and provinces like Albay and some are even brought in Navotas. (LSM/PIA5/Camarines Sur)
