DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Oct. 18 (PIA) -- The German Government, through its Embassy in the Philippines, is open for possible collaborations with Dumaguete City government in the development areas of science and renewable energy (RE) in the future.

German Ambassador Anke Reiffenstuel cited this when she addressed city officials and some employees of the city hall on Oct. 15 after paying a courtesy call on Mayor Felipe Remollo on the same day.

“I will still have enough reasons to come back to Dumaguete and work on the partnership between our countries. You have mentioned renewable energy. This is a huge potential and huge interest we have,” Rieffenstuel said.

She referred to Mayor Remollo who was the first one to give a speech during their short interaction with city officials and city hall employees.

Remollo said Germany is not only famous for hotdogs and beers but also for advancements in science and technology, RE, and car manufacturing.

Reiffenstuel added that the German government sees a huge potential for German businessmen engaged in RE to invest in Negros Oriental and also for German volunteers to do humanitarian volunteer work in the city and in the province.

The ambassador also took the opportunity to thank the City Government of Dumaguete for helping its citizens who were stranded in the city or in some parts of Negros Oriental return to their country at the height of the pandemic.

“I would like to thank Dumaguete for their support in our repatriation program. Dumaguete has provided has provided transportation to Cebu for our repatriation flights. This was a great help,” Reiffenstuel said.

Prior to her visit here, Reiffenstuel went to Cebu and the neighboring province of Negros Occidental to pay courtesy calls on the local chief executives there and to discuss possible partnerships with other local government units in specific areas of cooperation between the Philippines and Germany.

For his part, Remollo welcomed the ambassador’s visit to the city, saying that this visit could spark future collaborations with the German government.

“With their presence today, there’s a bright future for exchange of technology, culture, arts, and maybe in sports because Germany is also known for football and many other big sports,” Remollo said. (RAL/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
