La Union continues efforts to aid typhoon-affected residents

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Oct. 20 (PIA) -- After the onslaught brought about by severe tropical storm “Maring”, the Provincial Government of La Union continues its recovery efforts to aid heavily-affected residents.


Adamor Dagang, provincial information officer, said relief operations are underway after Typhoong Maring hit the province last week.


“To date, around 25,000 food packs have been immediately distributed to typhoon victims,” Dagang said.


He also said that relief items distribution continues until the evening, as La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega directed that assistance be provided to the affected provincemates as soon as possible.


In particular, Dagang informed that the most-hit towns in the province are those located in the first congressional district namely Bangar, Luna, Balaoan, and Sudipen.


However, areas in San Juan, San Gabriel, Bacnotan,and Santol are also reported to have been affected.


Dagang further stated that the province is open to accepting donations from all benefactors, including national figures, government agencies, and private businesses.


He also expressed gratitude to the other local government units in La Union, which were not affected but are now assisting those who were.


"All of these donations are accounted for, and we have a system in place to track and monitor where they were sent," he explained.

Recently, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri recently gave 400 sacks of rice to La Union. Each bag contains 25 kilograms of rice.


It will be added to the other donations received by the province, Dagang said.


“Dire-diretso ang ating panawagan. Magtulongan tayo para sa mas mabilis na recovery ng ating mga kaprobinsiaan,” he said.


Aside from the relief goods, the provincial government shall also assist some 61 residents whose houses were totally damaged by the heavy rains and winds.


Currently, La Union is under a state of calamity due to over P360 million losses in agriculture and infrastructures.  (JCR/JPD,PIA La Union)
