CapSU gets P24.9M grant for 'Smart Campus' project

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- A grant worth P24,999,960.00 was received by Capiz State University (CapSU) from the Commission on Higher Education.

The amount is intended for the implementation of the CapSU Smart Campus project that will gradually transform the school into an e-university.

The grant is part of the implementation of the Republic Act No. 11494 or the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act” which aims to provide funds for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to develop smart campuses by investing in ICT infrastructure, acquiring learning management systems and other suitable facilities to fully implement flexible learning modalities.

CapSU president Dr. Editha Alfon said the university was so fortunate to be one of the recipients of the project considering its usefulness amid the pandemic as she conveyed her gratitude to CHED under the leadership of Chair J. Prospero E. De Vera III for the grant.

“The CAPSU Smart Campus is the fulfillment of the university’s vision towards a digital learning environment that is made possible by CHED. This will empower the nine campuses in their implementation of flexible learning modalities. Thus, assuring that no student will be left behind and no dreams will be shuttered," Alfon said.

The project focuses on a system-wide improvement specifically on Campus Area Network (CAN), Internet Connectivity, and Learning Management System (LMS) of the nine campuses of the university.

It will guarantee the faculty and students access to information and communications technology and will develop a technology-driven learning environment that may provide platforms for operational efficiency, upgrading of personnel competencies and developing student skills and abilities for holistic development despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.

The project also covers Cloud and Zoom Subscriptions, as well as, the installation and configuration of server and storage utilizing the Hyper-Converge Infrastructure (HCI) to facilitate the technical management and operation of the project. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz/CapSU/Hazel Joaquin)
