'Barangayanihan' caravan rolls out in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - Indigents, elderly and school children from the village of Rizal Pala-Pala 2 availed of the various services provided through the Duterte Legacy: Barangayanihan Caravan Towards National Recovery launched in this city on Thursday, October 28.

Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) spokesperson Capt. Shella May Sangrines said the half-day event was a collaboration with government agencies and private groups spearheaded by the Philippine National Police that portrayed the whole-of-nation approach to inform the people of the accomplishments of the administration and efforts to bring directly the basic services needed by the villagers which were identified during the social investigation they have conducted.

Sangrines said around 100 indigents or poorest of the poor in the village received food packs containing rice, noodles and canned goods during the activity.

A total of 55 senior citizens availed of the flu vaccines and vitamins.

School children were given school supplies such as notebooks, pencils and crayons and served with arroz caldo and bread.

Sangrines, who is also the Chief of Police Precinct 1, said the "Libre Pagwapo kag Pagwapa sang Istasyon Uno" program of the precinct was also brought at the venue providing free haircuts, massage and manicure. The program is in partnership with the Iloilo City Alliance of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association.

Aside from PNP, government agencies such as the Land Transportation Office, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of the Interior

and Local Government and the city’s health office and boarding house commission sent representatives to share their programs, services and answer queries of villagers.

The Metro Iloilo Water District and More Power also participated in the activity to address concerns on water and electricity.

Personnel of the City Social Welfare and Development were also present to provide their services particularly on counselling for those who need it.

 Sangrines said force multipliers and the City Compliance Team ensured that safety and health protocols were strictly observed.

The same activity was simultaneously done in the villages of Hinactacan in Lapaz District and Bitoon in Jaro District which were also attended by ICPO Director Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
