Antique launches SSF on bamboo crafts, furniture

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - -  The bamboo crafts and furniture Shared Service Facility (SSF) located in the main campus of the University ofAntique (UA) was launched recently.

DTI Antique Provincial Director Ma. Dinda Tamayo, in an interview overa PIA radio program, said that bamboo is one of the major industries in Antique.

She said that DTI Antique is the Regional Industry Cluster Coordinatorfor bamboo in Western Visayas because the province considered bambooas one of its major industries.

“We are happy to know that UA has labeled itself as the “BambooUniversity” and has the facility on bamboo processing for furniture and food,” Tamayo said.

Data from DTI-Antique Provincial Office revealed that the SSF project is worth P13.5 million. The facility for processing bamboo products is the biggest in terms of value among the SSFs in the province of Antique.

There are 35 pieces of equipment that can produce engineered bamboo planks, furniture, and other homestyle products.

The project is hoped to increase the production capacity and improve product quality. Its operation through a shared system will be managed by the University of Antique.

The facility will be made available for the use of MSMEs at a reasonable toll fee to defray the operating expenses.

Services that will be offered are cutting, sawing, splitting, treatment, finishing, and painting.

The office of House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda is very supportive of this undertaking in partnership with the DTI– Antique Provincial Office.

Tamayo further said that the SSF is a true symbol of partnership among government agencies to better the plight of the micro, 

small and medium enterprises and the Antiqueños in general.

Through Tamayo, DTI here expressed its commitment to support the University of Antique as a partner institution and to the MSMEs whom she referred to as the true pillars of the Philippine economy. (JBG/PSM-PIA Antique/DTI)
