KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) – Some 127 residents of Barangay Toledo, Nabas, Aklan availed of the various basic services during the recently held Duterte Legacy BARANGAYanihan Caravan in the said barangay.
The activity was initiated by Nabas Municipal Police Station together with the local government unit of Nabas, Municipal Health Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development - Aklan, and Department of Agriculture-Aklan.
Police Lieutenant Christian John Nalangan, Nabas MPS deputy chief of police said during the program that Duterte Legacy Barangayanihan Caravan centers on informing the public about the government’s programs, achievements, and efforts under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration; and also to deliver basic services of the government to the grassroots level.
He urged residents not to be blinded by the recruitment of the CPP-NPA noting of their vulnerability to such due to the challenges brought by the Boracay closure and the coronavirus pandemic; wherein many have lost their jobs and livelihood.
“We want to send a message to you that the government has never left its people amid the coronavirus pandemic. Instead the government is here to support during this battle,” Nalangan said.
As part of the services delivered, PNP-Nabas provided lectures on residents regarding Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children, RA 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law) and RA 761 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) with the aim to further educate residents, as based on the police record, mostly of the complaints and cases filed in the said area were in relation with the said law.
Ariculture Specialist Molave Tandoy of DA-Aklan provided a seminar on Backyard Gardening to help Toledo residents cope with the economic struggles brought by the pandemic. Seeds and seedlings were also distributed to the residents.
Other services that were offered during the event were free medical check-ups, free haircut, and distribution of food packs and vitamins.
Processing and releasing of local police clearance, boat registration and farmers’ insurance registration were also conducted during the barangayanihan caravan. (AAL/SQP-PIA Aklan)
