ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--As data shows the city is far yet from attaining herd immunity, Mayor Celso Regencia firmly stressed that a hard measure will possibly be implemented if Iliganons will still be stubborn and continue to hesitate to be vaccinated with coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccines.
“Kung dili mabakunahan, ako mupakanaog og kamanduan sa atong kapulisan nga katong mga tao nga magmakuli magpabakuna, dili gyud makagawas sa ilang balay. Ayaw na paabuta,” he said during the rollout of the pediatric vaccination at Iligan City National High School (ICNHS) Monday, November 8.
[If not vaccinated, I will give an order to our policemen that those people who will hesitate to get vaccinated, they cannot really go out of their houses. Do not wait for that.]
Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz confirmed such a statement as he conveyed he was one of those who suggested this to compel every citizen to get jabbed, a tough decision to make but for everyone’s protection.
“The mayor [said] basin muadto siya ngadto sa extreme kung ang mga tao magmagahi gyud. This is what I am also telling the mayor na kinahanglan strikto ug iron hand ta because this is [for] the welfare of the people. Kining mga tao nga magmagahi, kinahanglan nga they should follow us. Kung dili sila musunod, then we have to employ the measure para dili sila makagawas sa ilang balay. Sa dili pa ta muabot nianang hard measure, musubmit lang ta sa bakuna. Hangyo nako sa mga tao,” he said in an exclusive interview.

Regencia has earlier underscored that everything he does is not for his own good, rather, for the goodness of the whole citizenry as he is driven to achieve the goal of hitting herd immunity and happily celebrating this year’s Christmas and the upcoming New Year with no major threats due to COVID-19 pandemic.
He constantly calls on the public to respond positively to the vaccination campaign of the government as all vaccines are offered for free and if ever they have other existing health conditions, they must just be honest in giving the data to attending doctors and nurses in the vaccination sites as these frontliners surely know whether to defer the vaccination or what vaccine to inoculate.
Vera Cruz further stated that if everyone gets vaccinated, a chain reaction will happen which will eventually lead to a COVID-free city.
“Ang prinsipyo man gud aning bakuna is to prevent us from being infected. Kung dili ta mainfected, wala nay kapuy-an ang COVID-19 nga kagaw. Kung walay makapasa niini, wala siyay host, naturally, it will die and we will have a free lugar diri sa syudad… If you love your family, neighbors and the city of Iligan, kinahanglan protektahan ang atong kaugalingon against COVID-19 ug magpabakuna gyud ta,” he said.
