CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) have jointly conducted a training on fish processing to women fisherfolk in the coastal town of Dinapigue.
At least 28 women fisherfolk participated in the training held in barangay Digumased where they were taught on the technical know-how on processing canned mackerel in corn oil and canned tulingan in tomato sauce.
The coastal town of Dinapigue is located at the eastern part of Isabela and can be reached passing the provinces of Quirino and Aurora.
“I hope that this training will serve as one of the foundations in uplifting the local industry of Dinapigue,” DOST Isabela head Lucio Calimag said.
Meanwhile, NIA Isabela Irrigators Development Officer Sonny Dapiaoen expressed his thanks to DOST Isabela for providing training on fish processing in their municipality following the request of the women fisherfolk to their office.
Dapiaoen said that the skills they have learned from the training conducted will eventually help the fisherfolk prevent fish spoilage and lengthen its shelf life. (MDCT/MGE/PIA Isabela)
