Maluso pushes to boost economy amid pandemic

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Nov 11 (PIA) – The municipality of Maluso in Basilan continues to improve their production of agriculture and fisheries products to boost the economy and the livelihood of the farmer and fisherfolks.

Maluso is also known for their agricultural products such as coconut, banana, abaka and rubber, which the Local Government Unit (LGU) continuously promotes.

During the live Laging Handa Network Briefieng guesting today, Mayor Hani Bud of Maluso shared their agricultural and aquamarine production in the municipality. He said that they do not have good processing industry for the abaka and rubber. However, with the assistance of the provincial government, they are piloting the processing of these products, “we are looking forward to really help our local farmers,” Mayor Bud added.

Aside from agricultural products, they are also known for their rich variety of aquamarine products in their municipal waters. Mayor Bud said that because of the efforts of the LGU and the assistance of President Rodrigo Duterte to forbid other fishermen to fish within their municipal waters, “this is to ensure that only our local farmers can harvest from our waters,” he added.

The municipality supplies a variety of fish especially, but especially tuna every day to big cities in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon. Moreover, with these economic development, they are also preparing for the opening of their own port in the municipality.

As the municipality looks at their economic growth, they are also focusing on the vaccination campaign which will make these improvements faster if their residents are fully vaccinated.

“We are intensifying our vaccination campaign 24/7 with the initiative of the Local Inter-Agency Task force,” Mayor Bud said. He also reported that 100% of their frontliners are now fully vaccinated and almost all government workers in the municipality. (RVC/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
