3 Baguio – Benguet OFCs get P2.25M OWWA livelihood grants

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - Three Overseas Filipino Workers Family Circles (OFCs) in the Baguio – Benguet area whose members are affected by the Coronavirus disease received livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration under the Tulong PUSO program.


Tulong PUSO (Pangkabuhayan sa Pag-Unlad ng Samahang OFW) is a one – time livelihood financial grant that aims to help OFCs on the Startup, expansion or restoration of their business undertakings.


The program beneficiaries are the Baguio – Benguet OFW Association which business proposal is a “Co Business Hub” at La Azotea, Session Road, Baguio City; the OFW CAR PH Association which proposed project is a hog raising business in Taloy Norte in Tuba Benguet, and the OFW Benguet Igorot Association which proposed business is rice trading in Betag, La Trinidad.

The Baguio – Benguet OFW Association and the OFW CAR PH Association have approved grant of P1M each while OFW Benguet Igorot Association will be granted P250, 000. For the awarding ceremony on Friday, the OFC beneficiaries received 20 percent of their approved grants.


National Reintegration Center for OFW Director IV Gerald “Dindi” Tan  led the awarding assisted by OWWA – CAR OIC Regional Director Luzviminda Tumaliuan, Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan and representatives from the Office of Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas and DOLE – CAR.

To maximize the event, OWWA – CAR   awarded   UWIAN NA Social Benefits, Sustainable Livelihood Program and Scholarship Certificates to several approved beneficiaries.


Tan advised all the beneficiaries to continue working for the development of their businesses as he called on OFWs to capitalize on the other programs and services of the government, especially on the scholarship programs that their children can avail. He also assured the continuing support of the OWWA – NRCO through the OWWA Cordillera Regional Welfare Office.


Meanwhile, OWWA – CAR also conducted capability building activities for Baguio – Benguet Migrant Desk Officers, Public Employment Service Officers and OFW Family Circle officers.   (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
