ILIGAN CITY (PIA) -- In celebration of World AIDS Day, the Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital (GTMLH) kicked off a month-long series of activities to raise awareness and call for support for people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Lined-up activities include a symposium on HIV/AIDS 101, free community-based screening and counseling, and the opening of the information exhibit on the HIV/AIDS campaign.
GTMLH Officer-in-Charge, Chief of Hospital Richillo Daguman shared the health workers underwent orientation on basic information on HIV/AIDS and on Republic Act 11166, otherwise known as the "Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act" to improve the management of HIV cases in Iligan as they envision to establish a treatment hub in the city hospital.
"Ang objective ani na activity is to re-aware or reorient our health care workers para maimprove ang atong paghandle o pagmanage sa atong HIV cases diri sa Iligan," he said.

Meanwhile, Ernest Nid S. Abueme of GTMLH urged people who have risky behavior to get tested early. He ensured that confidentiality is secured to those people who undergo testing and counseling for HIV/AIDS.
GTMLH is also eyeing to establish an HIV treatment hub to improve the management of cases in Iligan. (LELA/PIA Iligan)
