Iloilo’s top NPA leader killed in Miag-ao clash

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Iloilo's top New People's Army (NPA) leader Joven Ceralvo was counted as the ninth casualty in the recent clash in Sitio Burak, Barangay Alimodias, Miagao, Iloilo last December 1.

The death of Ceralvo was confirmed by the 301st Infantry Brigade following the forensic examination of the recovered cadaver of the NPA leader done by the PNP's Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team, a press release from the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division’s Public Affairs Office said.

Ceralvo alias “Lex” is the 2nd Deputy Secretary of Kometing Rehiyon-Panay (SF KR-P) Southern Front and Commanding Officer of the Front Operational Command Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (FOC KR-P).

According to Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of then 3ID, that the death of Ceralvo and those of his comrades serves as a warning to other terrorists that they will suffer the same fate if they don’t surrender peacefully.

Arevalo added “his demise is considered as justice served for all the victims of atrocities he has committed and a major setback to Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Panay. May his death will send an urgent and strong signal to the remaining leaders and members of the communist terrorist group to abandon violence and choose peace to avoid deaths."

Ceralvo is also facing different criminal cases such as rebellion, frustrated murder, double, multiple attempted murder, robbery and arson. (PIA6/With report from DPAO-3ID/Philippine Army)
