DOST gives STARBOOKS to 3 public schools in Abra

BANGUED, Abra (PIA)--The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Abra continues to reach out to more schools across the province giving learners better access to various information even without internet connection.

Three sets of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) were recently turned over to three public schools in the province. These are Alangtin Elementary School and Batayan Primary School, both in Tubo, and Abra High School in Bangued. The package given to schools in Tubo comes with a solar panel that will allow users to operate the computers without electricity.

DOST-Abra Provincial Director Engr. Ralf Sapi-il said that the STARBOOKS aims to upgrade the learning tools of Abrenian students in far-flung communities especially now that they are experiencing challenges in learning due to COVID-19 pandemic.

During the turn-over ceremony at Abra High School gymnasium, Abra Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Benilda Daytaca expressed her thanks to DOST for the digital library.

“This will inspire our learners to discover their potentials in their researches on science, technology and mathematics and will also help them in their distance learning modalities,” Daytaca said.

DOST’s STARBOOKS bring access to information with thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats for teachers and learners. It also stores scientific information sourced out from local and foreign linkages, subscription, archive collections, dissertations and in-house publications contained at the DOST’s Science Information Network.

To date, there are 292 STARBOOKS in the Cordillera Region of which 28 are in the province of Abra.
