New Philippine Army Chief is a Baguio boy

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- A decorated military officer from the Cordillera region   is the new Commanding General of the Philippine Armyy,

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed on Tuesday (December 7)   the appointment of Major General Romeo Brawner Jr.  as the new Army chief vice Lieutenant General Andres Centino who assumed as the Armed Forces chief last November 12.
 
Brawner, who hails from Baguio City and traces his roots from Kiangan, Ifugao, is member of is the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989.
  
He is the Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) before being appointed as the CGPA.

The Philippine Army said that under his leadership, the 4ID neutralized high-ranking Communists Terrorists Group (CTG) personalities in Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions including Jorge Madlos alias Ka Oris, head of the NPA's National Operational Command.

Before he assumed command of the Cagayan de Oro City-based 4th ID in July this year,  Brawner was the AFP deputy chief of staff for financial management. 

He previously served as commandant of cadets of the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City when it declared war on hazing following the death of a freshman cadet and the reported cases of maltreatment in the country’s top military school in 2019.
 
Brawner also served as spokesperson and deputy commander of the military task force Ranao that fought the ISIS-aligned militants who attacked Marawi City in 2017. He then later took over the command of the 103rd Infantry Brigade as the military launched operations to flush out the remaining militants in the war-torn city.
 
The Malawi veteran also served as Army spokesman and AFP public affairs chief.
