ITRMC stages webinar on glaucoma and cataract

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec.17 (PIA) --The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center conducted a webinar which focuses on the two on the most common diseases of the eye held on Thursday.


The virtual learning session dubbed as the “Eye Matters: Glaucoma at Katarata sa Bata at Matanda” aims to contribute and improve the health literacy of the public on glaucoma and cataract.


Eye specialists from the ITRMC provided a comprehensive discussion on the two topics: Dr. Mary Arsenia Mondiguing talked about cataract while Dr. Patricia Concepcion tackled glaucoma.


Mondiguing and Concepcion emphasized that glaucoma and cataract are “the leading causes of blindness in the world.”

Dr. Mary Arsenia Mondiguing, eye specialist of the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center discussed the various tips to prevent an individual from acquiring radiation cataract during a webinar dubbed as "Eye Matters: Glaucoma at Katarata sa Bata at Matanda" held on Dec.16, 2021.

Participants from both the public and private sectors were provided with the knowledge on the diseases’ signs and symptoms, medical treatment and its after-care following eye surgeries, as well as preventive measures to avoid acquiring these eye problems.


Further, the medical officers shared the eye services being offered by the ITRMC.


Clients may be catered through the Out-Patient Department or via the Online Konsulta from 8:00am to 3:00pm during weekdays wherein those with concerns on cataract are scheduled in the morning while those with glaucoma concerns can only be accommodated in the afternoon.


Consultation is free but some of the tests are charged with corresponding fees. (JCR/CGC, PIA La Union)
