SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Dec. 25 (PIA) - - The Bureau of Fisheries and Acquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 1 has planned to expand its aquanegosyo project for oyster along the coastal areas in the provinces of Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and La Union, according to OIC-Regional Director Rosario Segundina P. Gaerlan.
The plan for expansion of the project was realized following the launching of the Aquanegosyo Technology Incubator for oysters on December 11, at the National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center based at Bonoan Binloc, Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
“We already have a plan to expand the aquanegosyo project for oyster in the coastal areas of ABBAS (Alaminos City, Bani, Bolinao, Anda, and Sual) of Pangasinan while we are enhancing the oyster production technology in some coastal areas in La Union and Ilocos Sur,” Gaerlan said.
She said that BFAR Region 1 is now upgrading the “raft” method or hanging method of oyster culture to hasten the production, and to prevent the possible occurrence of siltation in the coastal areas.
The aquanegosyo project is one of the flagship projects of BFAR to modernize fish farming through technological innovations and optimize the profit of fisherfolk while at the same time harnessing its potential as a livelihood for fishing communities.
The project will maximize partnership and collaboration among the fishery stakeholders as well as various agencies.
The three important services that the project shall provide to the beneficiaries are training, technology building, and service-based model mechanism.
“Through the aquanegosyo project, the beneficiaries will also be train as entreprenuer,” she said. (JCR/FGL,PIA-1)
