DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Dec. 28 (PIA) -- The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) has reported a 22.3% (1,557) drop in crime incidents in the province between January to November 2021 compared in the same period in 2020.
During a Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting, NOPPO said the crime volume is composed of 2,607 index crimes and 2,824 non-index crimes.
The most prevalent index crime is theft with 150 incidents or a dip of 13.8%; followed by physical injury with 104 incidents or 31.6%; murder with 102 or 30.6%; rape with 100 cases at 22.5%; robbery, 46; homicide, 19; and carnapping, 14.
The crime solution efficiency (CSE) in the province increased to 79.89% and the crime clearance efficiency (CCE) to 92.29%.
CSE refers to crimes solved with the suspects arrested while CCE means the suspects have been identified but not arrested.
For non-index crimes or offenses punishable under the Revised Penal Code and Special Laws such as enforcement on Republic Act 9165 or Anti-Illegal Drugs campaign, 505 drug personalities were arrested and 3,249.68 grams of shabu were seized with a total value of more than P22 million.
Under Republic Act 9287 or the campaign against illegal gambling, the police arrested 2,028 persons with total bet money confiscated at P214,325.028.
For the campaign against loose firearms or R.A. 8294, NOPPO arrested 103 persons and seized/recovered 1,590 firearms.
The decrease in the total crime incidents and increase in police-initiated operations is attributed to the increased partnership and cooperation between the police and the community.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Army (PA) here apprehended seven communist-NPA terrorists and confiscated eight firearms in the fourth quarter of this year.
The PA in a report said that through the efforts conducted by the Negros Oriental Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NOTF ELCAC) to raise awareness against the communist terrorist groups, eight National People's Army terrorists surrendered to the local government.
