Nunungan town bats for dev’t, environmental protection

NUNUNGAN, Lanao del Norte (PIA)—Aiming for a well-established name and betterment of its populace, the municipal government here is now batting for further development while championing environmental protection.

Town mayor Marcos Mamay stressed that the municipal government with the aid of provincial government officials has always been striving to pave the way for peace and development after being deprived of such for the past three decades, and leaving the community suffering and clamoring for change.

“We are exerting much effort in making Nunungan a better place to live in. We are exerting effort on how to make Nunungan a competitive municipality not just in Lanao del Norte but the whole country,” he said.

As part of the eyed progress, infrastructures will soon rise in the town with the breaking of grounds Friday, January 14, for the construction of a P3-million multi-purpose building and P10-million Torogan through the sponsorship of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and the provincial government, respectively.

Provincial leaders have likewise backed the concreting of roads networking the municipalities of Sapad and Nunungan extending down to Sultan Naga Dimaporo while the Poblacion to Nunungan Lake access road is rehabilitated as well.

Meanwhile, to support environmental protection, the municipality in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and GN Power LTD Co. planted tree seedlings to augment the count of trees in the area.

Moreover, as the municipality’s Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park is aspiring for the ASEAN Heritage list, the local government here is at the forefront of the preservation of nature through intensifying the anti-illegal logging campaign to save the environment from the risk of deterioration.

Provincial Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo, who conveyed gladness for seeing the present picture of the municipality as a beautiful place to visit, challenged law enforcers, especially the Philippine National Police to tighten the surveillance of illegal cutting of trees and inflict appropriate actions upon those proven violators.

She also appealed to the public to stop the unlawful activity for the sake of future generations.

“That means kung ASEAN Heritage na ang atong Mt. Inayawan, bawal na gyud ang magputol og kahoy… Undangi nana ninyo para sa future sa inyong mga anak ug mga anak sa inyong mga anak. Dapat inyo nanang iappreciate what we have, what God has given us,” said Dimaporo.

[That means if M. Inayawan is an ASEAN Heritage, cutting of trees must already be prohibited… Stop that for the future of your children and the children of your children. You should appreciate what we have, what God has given us.]

With the help extended to the town, the municipal chief executive expressed his utmost gratitude seeing that the potentiality of his place as an ecotourism site shall prosper.

“Dako kini og katabang. Ang Nunungan man gud is developing pa. Daghan kakulangon sa amo diri after being deprived of peace and development… We are very much overwhelmed and thankful for all the blessings and countless projects na ginabubo diri sa atong national government and provincial officials,” said Mamay.

[This is a big help. Nunungan is still developing. There are still lots of needs here after being deprived of peace and development… We are very much overwhelmed and thankful for all the blessings and countless projects poured here by our national government and provincial officials.] (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Norte)
