TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- The Philippine Army has sent 14 truckloads of relief goods it sourced out from corporate and individual donors for the typhoon victims in Central Visayas.
In a statement, 3ID Spearhead Division of the Philippine Army based in Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz loaded the relief goods through Philippine Navy’s BRP Tarlac enroute to Central Visayas on the last day of 2021.
The shipment which consisted of bottled water, food items, canned goods, foams, mattresses, portable water purifier packs, electric generator, and other essential supplies were sourced out from Landers Superstore and were set to be packed and distributed immediately to affected areas in Central Visayas.
Task Group Cebu of 302nd Infantry Brigade, 3ID tasked 14th Civil Military Operation Battalion, 9th Marine Battalion Landing Team and 82nd Infantry Battalions to receive and haul said shipment upon its arrival and have it sorted and packed for the affected individuals, according to Capt. Kim Apitong, 3IDs Public Affairs chief.
Apart from Landers, the Philippine Army was able to consolidate essential supplies from corporate and individual donors with a total of P12 million to date.
All of these consolidated donations will be distributed to areas severely affected by Typhoon Odette, like in Bohol and Negros Islands.
"This is the genuine acts of what we call bayanihan. We are truly grateful to all the donations made by Landers Superstore and other companies and private individuals to areas that were devastated by the recent calamity," said MGen. Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division in a statement.
"Rest assured that all of these donations will be promptly delivered to areas severely affected by typhoon," Arevalo added.
Philippine Army units together with national government agencies, local government units and private sector partners are working ‘round the clock to provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to areas devastated by the typhoon. (RAHC/PIA7 Bohol with reports from 3ID PR)
