
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The Mankayan Municipal Hall is closed from January 19 to 21 for contact tracing and disinfection purposes as several employees tested positive of COVID-19.
“There is a need to temporarily close down the municipal hall for thorough disinfection and sanitation of the different offices as some employees already contracted the disease while some were placed on isolation,” Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong stated in an advisory.
The municipality of Mankayan recorded a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in the recent week with 20 new cases on January 14, while 30 new cases were recorded on January 17. 28 new cases were added on Jan. 20.
As of January 20, Mankayan already recorded a total of 1,911 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 1,780 recoveries, 54 COVID-19 related deaths and 77 active cases.
Of the active cases, 62 have mild symptoms, two are moderate cases while 13 are asymptomatic.
Ayong appealed to employees and the public to adhere with the minimum public health standards and observe all the health and safety protocols to protect themselves amidst the increasing COVID-19 cases and so that surge of cases as was experienced in the the past will not be repeated.
He also advised those who are feeling the symptoms of the COVID-19 or flu- like symptoms to immediately isolate themselves and report to the rural health unit for monitoring and proper actions to be undertaken.
Aside from the health and safety protocols, he also encouraged the eligible residents who are not yet vaccinated to get their shots as protection from severe effects of the COVID-19 especially now with the Omicron variant recently detected in Baguio City.
