DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) here has conducted a post disaster needs ssessment (PDNA) to validate the damage report from the local government units in the province.
According to Bernard Limbaga, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Agriculture Coordinating Office, based on the team’s assessment, the municipalities of Pamplona and Amlan were two of the severely-hit areas in the province.
It has been noted that banana plantations sustained the most damage.
Limbaga said the output of the PDNA is for a wholistic approach to address the needs of affected farmers and fishers.
The DA adopted the tool from the United Nations Economic Commission in assessing the needs of farmers and fishers affected by the onslaught of typhoon Odette.
A multi-sectoral and multi- disciplinary team from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Energy, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, National Housing Authority, and from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources attended the workshop to come up with a comprehensive and inclusive needs assessment of the farmers and fishers, by using a structured approach in the recovery and reconstruction efforts.
