BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- The province of Abra is set to join the third part of National Vaccination Day (NVD) scheduled this Thursday and Friday (February 10-11) through mobile vaccination.
The NVD III is prioritizing the administration of booster and primary doses to the A2(senior citizens) and A5(indigents) who are considered as the “unreachable groups,” Provincial Department of Health Office head Dr. Alex Bayubay said in an interview.
“As we all know, many of our senior citizens are suffering from limitation of movements because they can hardly walk for some reasons that is why we have the so-called Mobile Vaccination,” Bayubay said. The mobile vaccination will reach these populations through health personnel from local government units. he added.
He explained that the upcoming NVD “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” Part 3 has the same conceptual framework as the previous NVDs last year. It is a ‘whole-of-society’ and ‘whole-of-government’ approach, meaning it is a responsibility of the different agencies of national government, the LGUs and the private sector.
Abra has the highest accomplishment rate among provinces in the Cordillera Region in the previous NVDs, and to sustain this, they need to vaccinate more individuals.
“It is not enough to reach herd immunity but we need to vaccinate more Abrenians to gain more intact protection, lesser cases and lesser deaths,”Bayubay stated, emphasizing the importance of protection over accomplishment.
He assured enough supplies of vaccines in Abra. “Actually, marami tayong bakuna dahil manggagaling naman sa DOH ang mga supply natin. That’s why we are urging the LGUs, our allies, to vaccinate more,” Bayubay said.
Meanwhile, the administration of booster and primary doses continues daily at the vaccination center located at the Holy Spirit Academy of Bangued grounds in this capital town. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
