TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA)--The Regional Training Center-Tagoloan introduced its new assessment center for the Domestic Work NC II program through a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, February 11.
The center is solely intended for the skills training and development of Filipino domestic workers.
The ceremonial ribbon-cutting of this infrastructure of RTC-Tagoloan, which is under Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10 took place in its site located at Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The center is complete with its training facilities, including lobby area, living room, kitchen with modern appliances, bedroom, dorm room, bathroom, and comfort room, among others.
“We are very grateful for this opportunity to have with you our momentous event, the ribbon-cutting ceremony of our Domestic Work NC II Assessment Center. The Domestic Work NC II assessment center is one of the directives of our very good Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña,” said Center Administrator Mario S. Labisig.
He said Secretary Lapena wanted all regional training centers nationwide to offer assessment centers for domestic work which are primarily exclusive for overseas Filipino workers.
For his part, TESDA-Region 10 Director Ashary A. Banto cited a statement of TESDA secretary regarding the prioritization of domestic work training institutions and it is because of the sad plight of OFWs. The abuses have something to do with the perceived lack of competencies.
He also said perhaps, OFWs get overwhelmed by the workplace, different house set-up, and unfamiliarity with appliances, and as minute as these, these situations can be a reason for maltreatment.
“Before we deploy our OFWs, we have to be ensured, we have to ensure that they possess the adequate, even the complete competencies, required of the employer,” Banto said.
The regional director further said it is very important that before Filipino workers travel abroad, the country can take pride that its domestic workers are knowledgeable and have necessary skills, so that they themselves too will be confident that they are ready for the challenges they will be facing in their workplace.
TESDA-MisOr Provincial Director Marigold Cherie R. Garrido said she is very excited for Regional Training Center-Tagoloan following its ribbon-cutting ceremony. She is also grateful for the effort that the RTC-Tagoloan has exerted for the development of the assessment center.
Further, she said the event is a manifestation of collaboration among other agencies and partners. (IJBD/PIA-10)
