BFP warns establishments sans fire safety certificate

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here reminded owners of business establishments with expired fire safety inspection certificates (FSIC) to renew their certificates or be penalized.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Reynaldo Maliao, chief of the fire safety enforcement section of BFP-Iligan, said the FSIC is very essential for business establishments as it serves as an assurance that it has been duly inspected and deemed complying with the Fire Code of the Philippines or Republic Act (RA) 9514.

"Kung ang usa ka community dili nato ma-emphasize ang fire safety, madaot ang economy sa usa ka lugar kay kung mutukod ka og mga buildings ug business og masunog na siya, dako kaayo'g damage sa ekonomiya sa lugar," he said in an episode of Kapehan sa Iligan Chamber Friday, February 18.

[If we can’t emphasize fire safety in a community, the economy of the area will be damaged because if the buildings and businesses will be razed by fire, it will have big damage to the economy of the area.]

He also told business owners to religiously comply with the requirements of the BFP and those issued "notice of compliance" should immediately address the noncompliance within the grace period to avoid penalties.

"Kining among mga requirements para ni sa inyohang safety, para sa inyong occupants ug mga trabahante [These requirements of ours is for your safety, for your occupants and workers]," he further said emphasizing that the overarching goal of the RA 9514 is to ensure public safety.  (APB/PIA ICIC)
