BFP Antique: Awareness is key to avoid destructive fires

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here emphasized that public awareness is a key factor in avoiding destructive fires as the Fire Prevention Month kicked off on March 1.

In a press conference, Acting Provincial Fire Marshall Chief Inspector Joeffrey T. Animas encouraged Antiqueños to get involved in the month-long activities slated this March, citing that these events aim to have an informed citizenry that will help in keeping communities fire-free.

He also reminded household and building owners to be extra cautious with fire and electrical hazards such as electrical overloading and loose connections as 19 out of 34 recorded fire incidents in the province in 2021 are from residential areas and commercial establishments.

The BFP official then urged Antique residents to know the importance of fire containment or the process of cooling down areas around a burning property to delay the spread of fire and stop further damage.

Meanwhile, San Jose Municipal Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Ulyses P. Paco said that response time is very crucial as he urged everyone to save the hotline numbers of fire stations and to report fire incidents as early as possible.

BFP Antique also thanked both private entities and government agencies that donated tools and vehicles for improved fire, rescue and emergency response measures in the province as it has also been advocating that through cooperation and collective efforts can disasters be mitigated.

This year's fire prevention theme is "Sa pag-iwas sa sunog, hindi ka nag-iisa." (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
