“Hindi lang tuwing March pero araw araw, hindi po napapagod ang inyong mga kabumberohan na nagpapa-alala para ma lessen po natin ang fire incident and cases natin,” he added.
This year, the BFP is conducting Community Centered Fire Safety Focus where fire officers in the station levels conduct routine inspection of establishments, government and private buildings and other infrastructures to ensure safety of the buildings not only against fire but also against other possible disasters.
He said that the BFP-CAR thru the various fire stations regionwide, is intensifying the conduct of information education and communication campaigns and strategies to reach out to the communities to ensure that they prevent and stop fire incidents especially in areas with frequent grass, forest and garbage fires.
The BFP will also conduct seminars and trainings under the new normal, fire safety and disaster management seminars, firefighting, fire drill and earthquake drills.
The second week of March is designated as BFP Community Relations Week that focuses on strengthening the relationship of the bureau to the community through various activities including fire simulation exercises
Meanwhile, BFP-CAR Fire Safety and Enforcement Division and Public Information Unit Head Senior Inspector Jesus Yango reported that there was a significant decrease of fire incidents recorded by the BFP in 2021 with 301 cases compared to the 391 in 2020. Most of the cases were forest or grass fires in the province of Benguet
Most common causes of fires were electrical connections due to overloading, children playing with matches and lighters, unattended cooking and unattended candles and lamps.
