Narvacan launches e-jeepneys for greener, cleaner future

VIGAN CITY, Mar. 5 (PIA) -- The local government of Narvacan, through the initiative of Mayor Luis ‘Chavit’ C. Singson together with the LCS Group of Companies, launched the Electric Jeepneys on March 4, 2022, setting the municipality of Ilocos Sur toward a “greener, cleaner, and quieter future.”

Mayor Singson said that this is for the drivers, whom he told “no cost and no down payment guaranteed.”

The local government of Narvacan will provide the electric vehicles that are also equipped with the solar powered parking space located at the newly inaugurated first-ever solar powered Narvacan Farmers' Market and Commercial Complex.

Singson said during his message that this project will be powered by solar, in support of providing clean renewable energy resources nationwide gearing toward renewable energy and zero carbon emissions.

The solar panel roofing will serve as the power source for the charging stations of Electric Jeepneys in the municipality.

“The parking spaces installed with solar panels are to be duplicated all over the country,” Singson stated.

He emphasized, “No cost to the government, no cost to the private sector.”

According to the mayor, their partners provided the solar panels to help lower the consumption of electricity.

On Friday, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the inauguration and launching, along with Senator Christopher Go, National Secretary Adviser and CORDS for Region 1 Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon Jr., Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar, Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson and other public officials.

Mayor Singson expressed his gratitude to the president and said, “malaking karangalan na napasyal sa atin ang ating kaibigan, President Rodrigo Duterte. This is a huge encouragement, Mr. President.”

“Thirty years ago, binuo natin ang Republic Act 7171 para sa ating mga magsasaka. Only in your administration that the fund for R.A. 7171 is continuous. Only under your leadership have we felt the benefits of R.A. 7171,” the mayor said. (JCR/JPD, ATV PIA Ilocos Sur)
