Guv Singson lauds LGU Narvacan’s 1st solar-powered market

DAGUPAN CITY, Mar. 7 (PIA) – Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson lauded the local government unit of Narvacan, headed by League of Municipalities President and Narvacan Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson, for building the first solar-powered public market in the country.

“I would like to congratulate the people of Narvacan and the proponents of this project for this state of the art Narvacan Farmers Market,” Governor Singson said as he welcomed guests during the inauguration of the new market on Friday.

Singson hopes that the Narvacan Farmers Market will be utilized to its full potential in order to help realize the vision to develop resilient and economically stable communities all over the province.

“It is said that public markets are the heart and soul of our towns and cities as it encourages both social and economic activities. They bring about improved access to quality food, give better marketing opportunities for farmers and local producers, provide better employment opportunities for residents, and create an entrepreneurial environment that can increase small business formation which are all needed during this period of recovery of our people,” he said.

He added, “As local economic multipliers, they also effectively complement the several infrastructure and road improvement projects that have been built and completed all around the province of Ilocos Sur.”

Further, Singson thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for gracing the event and formally opening the first solar powered farmers’ public market and commercial complex in the Philippines.

“I would like to relay my sincerest gratitude to President Duterte for taking the time out of his busy schedule to be with all of us today,” he said.

The governor added, “Mr. President, your presence here in the province not only brings joy and comfort for all our constituents who have gone through many challenges ranging from COVID-19 to natural calamities but also epitomizes the effective relationship of both the national and local governments in bringing about needed public services and programs for the betterment of the lives of our people.”

“As one of your governors, Mr. President, it has been an honor and privilege to have served with you. You have done an excellent job in serving the Filipino people,” Singson said.

In closing, he reminded everyone to continue to comply with health and safety protocols despite the downgraded alert level status of the province. (JCR/AMB/PIA Pangasinan)
