La Trinidad  re-strategizes COVID-19 vaccination  approach

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The local government of La Trinidad is shifting its strategies on the COVID-19 vaccination in the municipality in efforts to increase the vaccination rate to reach herd immunity.

Mayor Romeo Salda said that the local government unit thru the Municipal Health Office will now be focusing on vaccination at the workplaces and in  the barangays while maintaining the vaccination   sites in areas of convergence in the municipality.

“There is a need to create such strategies to ensure that residents of La Trinidad will be provided with COVID-19 vaccines including those in the workplaces and even in far flung areas in the municipality so that they would be protected from the COVID-19,” Salda said.

The province of Benguet is still placed under the stricter Alert Level 2 status due to the still low vaccination rate in the province.

“In coordination with the provincial government of Benguet and the Department of Health-Cordillera, we are re-strategizing the COVID-19 vaccination in La Trinidad and we would like to bring the vaccines closer to the communities and closer to the workplaces,” Municipal Health Officer Dr. Antoinette Agpas.

Vaccination areas  were recently placed in some  business establishments to cater  to workers who could not go  to the vaccination centers    due to work schedules and  for  the  residents  and  clients going to  said  facilities.

At least 11 vaccination sites in business establishments in the municipality were opened to  the public for first and second doses and booster shots during the National Vaccination Days – Bayanihan Bakunahan Part 4  which aims to inoculate  and provide protection to more Filipinos.

"We are glad that business establishments were very willing to participate. Despite the limited spaces, the business establishments provided spaces  so that  employees and clients could be vaccinated,” she said.

Agpas said they are also intensifying the vaccination in the barangays with the sitio-based vaccination activities bringing the vaccines closer and more accessible to residents even in far flung areas.

Municipal Health Officer Dr. Antoinette Agpas

As of March 7, La Trinidad recorded 59.33 percent vaccination rate or 67,201 individuals who are fully vaccinated while 63.84% or 72,300 individuals are inoculated with at least one dose. The municipality has a target of 113,258 individuals.

The officials continue to encourage the La Trinidad residents and the rest of the people of Benguet to get their COVID-19 vaccines at the various sites to get protected and prevent the possible severe effects of the COVID-19.

The public is encouraged to check the La Trinidad BidaBakunationfacebook page for the schedules of vaccination in the different establishments, facilities and   barangays. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
