DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, March 15 (PIA) -- In line with the observance of National Women’s Month this March, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Negros Oriental reminded companies to comply with labor standards which uphold women’s welfare in the workplace.

DOLE Provincial Director Teresa Tanquiamco said her office has been conducting routine inspections to companies and employers to make sure they comply with the labor standards for women.

DOLE also holds orientation and capacity-building measures to inform employers and workers in the formal and informal sectors on the latest issuances related to the Magna Carta for Women.

Wala ta nagkulang ana because we usually do that but we will not stop conducting adovacies on these programs, new issuances on the implementation of labor standards,” Tanquiamco said.

“We make sure every time we conduct inspection, every time we get complaints, we always do that. There might be some establishments siguro katong mga bag-ong micro enterprises (like newly-established micro enterprises), maybe they have the knowledge but maybe they are not implementing, but of course we will look into that if ever naa ta complaints na madawat (we receive any complaints),” she added.

Some of the labor standards that promote women’s welfare in workplace as guaranteed by the Magna Carta for Women include the granting of leave benefits for women employees who undergo surgery caused by gynecological disorders, provided “they have rendered continuous aggregate employment service of at least six months for the last twelve months” and “non-discrimination in employment in the field of military, police and other similar services that include according the same promotional privileges and opportunities.”

DOLE has issued Department Order No. 112-11 s. 2011 which state the guidelines for the implementation of special leave benefits for women employees in the private sector and Department Order No. 112-A s. 2012 which amends some provisions of the earlier cited order from the department.
