DSWD KALAHI CIDSS turns over P2.5-M farm-to-market road

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6 recently turned over a farm-to-market road project amounting to P2.5 million, benefiting not only households in the project area but also other nearby areas in Barangay Carmelo, Banate, Iloilo.

DSWD-6 Chief of Promotive Services Division Luna Moscoso led the turn-over of the road project to Merced-Carmelo Irrigators Association in Sitio Bantud, Barangay Carmelo.

The 253 linear meters road project is part of the government’s disaster response projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Disaster Response Operations Modality.

Under the KALAHI-CIDSS, a P2.1 million grant was provided for the completion of the road project.

The municipal local government and barangay local government units have also provided cash counterparts.

According to DSWD 6, the paved road will provide safe passage to the residents of Sitio Bantud, especially during the rainy season. It can be used in all weather conditions.

Village officials led by Barangay Captain Zeth Baccera are grateful for the project.

Baccera said there is a housing project in Sitio Bantud and residents there will largely benefit from the road project.

Based on the KALAHI-CIDSS data, the road project will benefit 514 households in the housing project area alone.

There are other beneficiaries of the farm-to-market road, reaching  1,028 households.

The paved road, added Bacera, will make it easier for the farmers and vegetable growers to bring their produce to the market and for students to go to school. It will also enable health authorities to respond to the needs of the community.

The completed road will further improve the community’s connectivity to the town  proper. (dswd6/laf/PIA6-Iloilo/Photo courtesy of dswd6)
