CAPELCO’s tri-media fellowship cited as ‘best practice’

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – A tri-media fellowship night was again conducted by the Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) to renew and rekindle the camaraderie between the officials and employees of the power distribution utility and local media practitioners, March 17, here.

The CAPELCO initiative, now in its 15th year, gathered print and broadcast journalists from the various media outlets in Capiz in appreciation of their support in information dissemination on various programs, projects and updates of the electric cooperative.

It was also designed to give respite from the grueling times of media work.

“This activity was already acknowledged by the National Electrification Administration as one of the best practices of an electric cooperative,” said CAPELCO general manager Engr. Edgar Diaz, adding that a lot of electric cooperatives have also replicated it.

The fellowship night was graced by Philippine Information Agency OIC regional head Jemin Guillermo as guest of honor and speaker.

She underscored the role of media people as communicators who rally for truth, integrity, human rights and justice.

“Not everyone can understand the life in the media. But, what is important is that we, as practitioners, understand ourselves and our mission,” she stressed, noting that the mission is not to enrich oneself with power, fame and money.

The gathering was only called off in 2021 due to restrictions and threats of the COVID-19 pandemic. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
