Munai, Poona Piagapo LGUs hand over loose firearms

BALO-I, Lanao del Norte (PIA)--The local governments of Munai and Poona Piagapo handed over four loose firearms with magazines to the 4th Mechanized Infantry (Kalasag) Battalion here.

This initiative is a result of the collaborative efforts of the military and the local government units (LGUs) in support of the proliferation of loose firearms under the Comprehensive Law of Firearms and Ammunitions Campaign also known as Republic Act 10591.

Munai mayor Racma Andamama said that they settle rido or family feuds in their municipality so that residents will no longer have the reason to acquire loose firearms. She also said that they are committed to supporting the proliferation of loose firearms.

“Kami po sa Munai, pinagsisikapan po namin na unti-unti na mawawalala ang loose firearms sa aming munisipyo kasi alam nating lahat na ito yung nakakatrigger sa pagkakaroon ng gulo. Umaasa kami na balang araw yung programa ng gobyerno ay maaatim natin,” she said.

[We in Munai are trying to gradually eliminate loose firearms in our municipality because we all know that this triggers conflicts. We hope that one day we will be able to achieve the vision of the government's program.]

The mayors expressed gratitude to the Battalion for their commitment and efforts in promoting peace and ensuring security in their areas. They also hope for safe and fair elections in May.

Meanwhile, LtCol. Joseph Marlon Famoso, 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion acting commanding officer, said that the handing over of loose firearms is a result of the series of dialogues conducted by their Battalion in coordination with the LGUs.

“Our activity exemplifies the good inter-agency collaboration and cooperation that we have established with LGUs and stakeholders as we continue to work towards the achievement of peace and development in the communities, '' he said.

Famoso also said that the handing over of the loose firearms is very timely considering that the National and Local Elections will be held soon.

2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade executive officer LtCol John Mark Competente also thanked the mayors of Munai and Poona Piagapo towns for their tireless efforts in helping the military in its quest towards a peaceful community. (LELA/PIA Lanao del Norte)
