CEBU CITY, Cebu, March 24 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 7 (DSWD-7) has expanded its skills and development training programs through the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II that aims to cater to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Visayas as beneficiaries of the said program.
The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II) is a non-residential facility that aims to provide a comprehensive vocational rehabilitation program through skills training and social rehabilitation services, addressing the multi-faceted problems of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through a multidisciplinary case management approach.
The program is also an opportunity for the PWDs to acquire appropriate employable skills through an enriched training curriculum that enables them to become competitive individuals in the labor market.
Employers in private companies that have PWDs personnel can also tap the AVRC II as a venue to improve the job skills of their PWD workforce.
The AVRC II offers seven training courses that include Computer System Servicing, Massage Therapy, Commercial Cooking, Dressmaking, Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing, Domestic Work, and Basic Cosmetology.
During the “KASAYURAN” radio program on March 23, Training Center Superintendent II of AVRC II Graeme Ferdinand Armecin explained the purpose of the AVRC II program.
“Sa kaning Area Vocational Rehabilitation gihatagan natu og kahigayonan o oportunidad ang atong mga kaigsounan nga mga PWDs aron mas mapalambo pa ilang mga competencies sa nagkalain-laing mga butang. AVRC II aims to enhance the potentials of our PWDs)," said Armecin.
He added that the scope of the program is not limited to the seven training courses but also offers social rehabilitation services to its beneficiaries, which means it will provide the PWDs the highest level of physical and psychological functioning and economic sufficiency within the bounds of their capacities and abilities.
According to DSWD-7, the qualified applicants will be evaluated based on their existing skills and capabilities to determine the appropriate training for them and if their skills are aligned to all courses then they can undergo all the training courses.
The vocational rehabilitation under AVRC II will span for one year and the training will be conducted on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
DSWD-7 is urging all PWDs who want to improve their skills in various areas to apply for the services offered by the AVRC II.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Facebook page of AVRC II at “Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II” and its website at avrc2.dswd.gov.ph for details on the application process and list of requirements.
