5 school building projects in La Trinidad set for turnover

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) --Five school building projects in this capital town are set for turnover to the end users this month.  


These are the 4-storey building in La Trinidad National High School in Barangay Lubas, 4-storey building at the Puguis Elementary School in Brgy. Puguis, 4-storey building  at  the Cordillera Regional Science High School, two school buildings  at  the Benguet National High School – Main in brgy Wangal.

The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) – Project Inspectorate Team recently inspected these five school buildings which were identified as problematic by the Department of Education – Cordillera Regional Office.


During the Problem Solving Session facilitated by RPMC-CAR Chair and NEDA-CAR Regional Director Susan Sumbeling, the project contractors vowed to complete the needed corrections and ensure readiness for the turn over to the DepEd and be used for the limited face-to-face classes by April 11, 2022.


Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials cautioned the project contractors that if they will not comply with the agreed completion dates, they would face possible sanctions or even blacklisting of future projects.

Engr. Benedict Pineda of the La Trinidad local government unit said they will help in the processing of the occupancy permits for the schools.


The DepEd officials requested for the inspection by the RPMC of the problematic and unfinished school building projects to facilitate the completion and turnover of the school buildings to the users and also to ensure that the defects would be addressed or corrected.
 

The Regional Project Monitoring Committee – Project Inspectorate Team led by NEDA check school building projects in La Trinidad, Benguet,

DepEd CAR Regional Director Estela  Cariño said  there is really a need for the pending school building projects to be completed  with face to face classes now back  amid the  existing COVID 19 pandemic,  which requires the  implementation of  health  protocols in schools such as physical distancing.


Other members of the Project Inspectorate Team- include personnel from the Presidential Management Staff, National Intelligence Coordination Agency, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Dept.  of Environment and Natural Resources, Dept.  of Budget and Management, Philippine Information Agency  and private sector representatives  from  the Abong Foundation, the Shountoug Foundation and the United Architects of the Philippines – Cordillera.


 
Also joining in the inspection were Benguet Division Superintendent Gloria Buya-ao; DPWH-CAR Planning and Design Chief Engr. Angelita Mabitasan and DPWH Benguet First District Engineering Office led by District Engineer Isagani Cayme and   representatives of the project contractors namely FB Bentales / Kalahan Construction, Random Builders and Balintugan Construction.
