La Trinidad remains peaceful despite rise in crimes

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The municipality of La Trinidad remains generally peaceful despite the increase in crimes committed in the first quarter of this year.

La Trinidad Municipal Police Station Chief, PLt. Col. Rodelio Olsim reported this during the Joint Municipal Peace and Order Council and the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council meeting recently.

Olsim explained that the increase in crimes committed is due to the relaxation of   COVID-19 protocols and the opening of the economy in the province   and the nearby city of Baguio since January this year.

The LTMPS recorded a total of 160 crimes from January 1 to March 22, 2022 compared to the 40 crimes recorded in 2021. Of the 160 total crimes recorded, 141 were non-index crimes while 19 were index crimes.

For the index crimes or the focus crimes of the PNP, theft  tops with 11cases,  two cases each for physical injury, rape and robbery and one each for murder and carnapping.

For non-index crimes recorded, there were 100 vehicular traffic accidents, 27 for violation of special laws such as Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Law.

There were also 14 other non-index crimes such as  acts of lasciviousness;  alarm and scandal, direct assault and frustrated homicide,  slander, trespassing, threats, discharge of firearms and concubinage.

The La Trinidad MPS was able to arrest 38 wanted persons with eight included in the Top Most Wanted.

With the increasing number of crimes being recorded in the municipality, Olsim urged the public to remain vigilant and help the police force in ensuring a peaceful and orderly community.

Olsim also asked the support of the community and barangay leaders to help in the conduct of information, education and communication campaign in the different communities particularly on safety and security concerns and other anti-crime advocacies to ensure safer barangays and a more peaceful municipality.
