DOE: Sanctions await LPG and gasoline trade violators

ILIGAN CITY (PIA) --Oil companies, gasoline station operators, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealers that will violate the rules and regulations will be sanctioned according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

Alpres Russel Bustillo, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Department of Energy, said that the Republic Act 8479 also known as the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, removed government control on the pricing of petroleum products. Hence, what they can do is monitor the prices and ensure the security of supply of all products.

“In cases nga naa ma'y mag violate, kami sa DOE mag-impose jud mi og fines and penalties by issuing them an inspection report and show cause order nga dapat within 10 days magbuhat sila'g corrective measures as well as ang ilahang explanation nganong na-commit to nila nga mga violations,” he said.

[In cases where there are violators, we at the DOE will impose fines and penalties by issuing them an inspection report and they must show a cause order within 10 days they will take corrective measures as well as their own explanation of why they committed violations.]

With a joint inspection of five gasoline stations and three LPG stores in the city held by the Local Price Coordinating Council together with DOE, it was found out that out of the five gasoline stations inspected four have violations. These include outdated calibrating buckets, no calibration logbooks, no free tire air pressure filling, prices on the price display board, dispensing pumps that do not match and dispensing in inappropriate containers.

Moreover, three LPG establishments were inspected. It was reported that one establishment has no Standards Compliance Certificate while another one has 1 underfilled LPG cylinder.

Meanwhile, Iligan City Permit and License Division’s licensing officer Maria Rhodora Omlero reminded the owners of the gasoline and LPG stations to be compliant with the requirements of DOE and to provide fair services to the public. (LELA/ PIA Lanao del Norte)
