PDRRMO urges Antiqueños to stay alert amid harsh weather

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) urged Antiqueños to remain on alert although no tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) is raised over the province.

In a virtual press conference, April 11, PDRRMO head Broderick Train said that moderate to heavy rain showers are experienced in the province due to the outer clouds of Tropical Depression (TD) Agaton which currently batters Eastern Visayas.

He added that the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) had been activated as early as Saturday, April 9, to ensure intensified efforts in monitoring, preparations, coordination and response.

The EOC will remain operational until harsh weather conditions subside in the province.

Various municipal DRRMOs, meanwhile, reported swelling of river systems although water levels do not signify a cause for alarm nor signal mandatory evacuation.

Residents nearby are yet again advised to keep an eye out for possible flash floods.

Upland communities, on the other hand, are told to be extra cautious of landslides should the downpour persist.

The same preparedness advisory is given to coastal barangays that are under threat of storm surges.

Train also said that sea travel is unrestricted following the advice of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Antique, but noted that small passenger and fishing vessels are discouraged from sailing out due to rough waves.

He then encouraged Antiqueños to warn each other of threats and to immediately report hazards to the authorities for immediate action. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
