Army helps residents in Panay flood-hit areas

ILOILO CITY (PIA) --  Army's 301st Infantry Brigade has deployed troops, April 12, for humanitarian assistance and disaster response in areas in Panay Island that are badly hit by flood due to heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Agaton.

Brigadier General Marion R. Sison, the 301st Brigade commander, said that troops from the Army's 12th and 82nd Infantry Battalions and 33rd Civil Military Operations (CMO) Company were sent to flood-hit towns in the provinces of Iloilo and Capiz.

This is to help in rescueing stranded families and individuals and extend other disaster relief efforts to affected communities, 301st Brigade CMO Officer  Capt. Roel Maglalang said in a press report.

He added that the 552nd Engineering Combat Battalion was also deployed for road clearing operations.

301st Brigade in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region VI and affected local government units planned and arranged the transport and delivery of food packs through the military trucks and Army personnel.

"Our responsibilities do not end with just securing our kababayans from the cruelty of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG)," Sison said.

Sison stressed "We are also committed to help save the lives of the people, especially during disasters and calamities in partnership with other government agencies."(JBG-PIA6/Story and photo from 301Bde-Philippine Army)
