PNP sustains 5Ps program to reach GIDAs in Ilocos

BY: KATHLENE JOYCE C. RAMONES

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Apr. 19 (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Ilocos sustains its Patubig, Pailaw, Pabahay, Pantawag, at Palikuran ni Juana (5Ps) project to reach out to high-risk geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAS) in Ilocos region.

The 5Ps project is in support of Executive Order No. 70 which seeks to institutionalize the whole-of-nation approach to combat the terrorist-communist groups and their influences.

PCOL Charlie Umayam, chief of the Regional Operations Division of PNP Ilocos,  said the Police Community Relation officers monitor every barangay to trace the needs of households through the project.

“Doon sa 5Ps na ‘yon, mayroon tayong patubig kasi mayroong mga lugar na hindi inaabot ng tubig. Kung saan-saan sila umiigib ng kanilang maiinom,” said Umayam during the Kapihan sa Ilocos of PIA on April 8.

Through the 5Ps project, the PNP also ensures the comfort and security of the residents.

“We have pailaw ng pulis. May mga lansangan na talagang wala pang ilaw, but then because of the effort at sa mga ideya ng ating mga ibang ahensya ng gobyerno, nalalaman natin at ito ay binibigyan ng kaparaanan para mabigyan ng lunas ang mga pangangailangan nila,” said Umayam.

“Hindi lang kami in charge doon sa peace and order sa community kundi in partnership with AFP. Tuwang-tuwa kami noong nai-declare ang Region 1 as an area with stable internal peace and security,” Umayam added.

The PNP assured its sustainability by coordinating with other government agencies to maintain security regionwide. (JCR/AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
