Comply with obligations to employees, SSS reminds employers

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Social Security System (SSS) steps up employer compliance to the provisions of the Social Security Act of 2018 through the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign.

SSS VP for Luzon Operations Group Atty. Antonio Argabioso and SSS VP for Luzon North 1 Division Ceasar Saludo led the said campaign in the city as they visited some employers here on Wednesday (April 20) and reminded them to comply with the provisions of the law.

"Naiintindihan naman po namin, maraming nagbawas, maraming nagsara, but for those who still operated during the pandemic but failed to remit the contribution in timely manner.  Ito po 'yung kanilang opportunity to (avail) of this program," Argabioso said.

He emphasized the need for the employers to remit the contributions of their employees for them to avail of the different social protection programs and benefits.

Saludo bared that the delinquent employers may avail of their Pandemic Relief Restructuring Program.

"Ang kaigihan nun, may mga installment proposal. Puwedeng i-settle nung employer ang kanyang mga delinquency by means of installment depende po 'yan sa kung gaano kahaba at kung gaano kalaki 'yung kanyang delinquency," he explained.

Five employers here failed to register their businesses to SSS while nine did not produce proof of SSS membership and contribution payments of their employees.

These dekiquent employers were issued with written orders to settle their legal obligation within 15 days upon receipt. Failure to comply with the order will constrain the SSS to take legal action.

Under the Social Security Act of 2018, employers who fail or refuse to register their employees, deduct contributions from them, and/or fails to remit the same, including the employer's share to the SSS will be penalized by a fine of P5, 000 to P20, 000, and/or be imprisoned for six years and one day to 12 years, at the discretion of the court.
