JRMP II project is now halfway done

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Senator Franklin M. Drilon said that the Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) is almost halfway completed as the overall physical accomplishment is now at 48.37% as of March 2022. 

During a press briefing held at the Iloilo Convention Center, April 25, Drilon said that the JRMP will greatly improve the lives of farmer - families in the province of Iloilo while, at the same time, will double the rice production of the province of Iloilo once the project is finished and operational.

The P11.2 - billion JRMP II project is the biggest irrigation project outside of Luzon.

It is expected to expand the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) irrigation area by 9,500 hectares in Iloilo, generate 6.6-megawatt hydroelectric power, supply 86 million liters per day of bulk water for the province and city, generate eco-cultural tourism opportunities and mitigate flooding in Calinog town and nearby municipalities.

JRMP II Project Manager Jonel Borres said that simultaneous works are being conducted day and night in the construction sites including the Jalaur High Dam and Jalaur Afterbay Dam in Brgy. Agcalaga, Calinog, Alibunan

River Catch Dam in Brgy. Toyungan, Calinog, High Line Canal that will traverse nine towns in the province of Iloilo, JRMP II housing and resettlement sites in Barangay Cahigon, Calinog and other important irrigation structures.

The implementation of Iloilo’s biggest irrigation development project is expected to be finished by end of December 2023.

The largest of the three dams, the Jalaur High Dam, has already reach more than 33 meters high out of its 109 meters structural height and it is expected to store an estimated of 250.70 million cubic meters of water that will be utilized for irrigation, hydropower, potable water supply, inland fishery, and eco-tourism purposes.

The construction of the Jalaur Afterbay Dam is also almost halfway done through its target of 38.5 meters as the current height has reached more than 17 meters and is expected to be finished by the end of 2022 or up to the first quarter of 2023. (AAL/PIA6/EJB)
