PSHS CagVal studes bag int’l award

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - Five students of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) here recently bagged an international award for their agricultural device.

The PSHS students, Edan Viel Aguada, Zena Yelena Shimmery Dellomos, Joshua Robert Martin, Hadiya Andoy and Prince Angelo Rivera bagged the Gold Award in the International Level of Shell’s - The Bright Ideas Challenge 2021 Global Recognition under the category Exceptional NXplorers Project by a student team.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña also led the  awarding of recognition for the PSHS students with their coach Lyndon Lazaro during his visit to the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NSU) over the weekend.

The students’ entry - Project pagSOILbok is a portable device and mobile application for soil testing. It measures the Nitrogen, Phosporous and Potassium (NPK) contents and PH level of the soil.

It also displays the results gathered from the device and recommends ways to enrich the soil.

The project, worth P100,000.00 is funded by Shell Philippines for implementation in Cagayan Valley region.

The PSHS team dubbed El TierraTix of PSHS competed with 150 entries from Australia, Brazil, Brunei, China Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago and the United Arab Emirates. (MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
