Antique holds trade and tourism fair, local art exhibit

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Antique is currently holding a trade and tourism fair and an art exhibit by local artists at the Old Provincial Capitol and Balay nga Bato, respectively.

With the grand opening on April 27, the provincial government hopes to promote and market to greater masses the wide array of Antiqueño products which include engineered bamboo items, handicrafts, trademark delicacies, ornamental plants, and tourism sites among others.

The fair and exhibit are expected to assist in the revival of the province’s trade, tourism, and culture and arts sectors as COVID-19 infections continue to decrease and as the mobility of citizens becomes less restricted throughout the country.

Governor Rhodora Cadiao, in her message during the soft opening program, April 26, urged Antiqueños to patronize the province’s local products as a way to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are recovering from the onslaught of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Antique Representative and House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda expressed her confidence in the quality of

Antique-made products and vowed to provide a venue for all MSMEs throughout the province to feature their native goods.

The lady solon then urged the public to help in marketing the province, its culture and arts, events, cuisine, and beautiful land- and seascapes to friends, family, and acquaintances both within the country and abroad.

Among the participating MSMEs in the fair are Plants Antique, Sto. Rosario Multi-Purpose Cooperative, San Pedro Embroidery, Patadyong Apparel, Bagtason Loomweavers Association, Buri Handicraft Association, Tobias Fornier Bamboo Crafters Association, Belison Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Twins Food Products, Kings Food Products, and Laua-an MPC.

A series of experience activities in pot-making, coin purse weaving, bonsai preparation, and embroidery are also in place in connection with the trade and tourism fair.

Antiqueños and visitors alike are enjoined as well to witness the arts exhibit at Balay nga Bato where masterpieces made by local artists from Rahmag Visual Arts Group are put on sale.

Together with the provincial government in this initiative are the Office of House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, the Antique Development Foundation, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Antique Association of Hotels, Resorts, and Restaurant Owners (AAHRRO), and Rahmag Visual Arts Group.

The trade and tourism fair and art exhibit will last until May 3, 2022. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
