VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA)- Catanduanes State University (CatSU) hosted the Bicol Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Culture and Arts Festival on April 28-30, 2022.
The three-day event focused on the theme: “Sining at Kultura ng Pag-asa, Tungo sa Ibayong Pagpapahalaga” chaired by Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascarinas, Bicol University (BU) president.
CatSU vice-president for Research, Extension &Production Affairs (REPA), and co-chairperson of the executive committee (ExeCom), Dr. Ramon Felipe A.Sarmiento, said the event showcased the talents of students from different state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Bicol along 25 categories in the literary, musical, dance, visual arts and theatre.
In the literary category, participating students from various Bicol SUCs competed in the on-the-spot essay writing, pagsusulat ng sanaysay (Filipino), extemporaneous speaking (English), dagliang talumpati (Filipino), story telling (English), pagkukwento (Filipino). Other categories include: theatre (short and sweet play, radio drama), visual arts (charcoal rendering, pencil drawing, painting, on-the-spot poster making, photography), musical (live band, solo kundiman, solo OPM, vocal duet, chorale, show choir, classical guitar), Dance (folk dance, indigenous dance contemporary, hip hop, street dancing). A Search for Mr. and Ms. PASUC V will also be staged during the event.
Registration started on April 28 at 8 a.m. at the university main building lobby until 10 a.m., followed by an opening program until 11 a.m. at the CatSU gymnasium. Events in the afternoon which were held simultaneously in various venues were live band competition, extemporaneous speaking and Dagliang Talumpati and musical competition.
On April 29, there were essay writing and sanaysay, on-the-spot poster making, charcoal rendering painting and photography, dancing and story telling / pagkukuwento, pencil drawing, chorale competition, short and sweet play, and radio drama. The Search for Mr. and Miss PASUC V was held in the evening at Virac Town Center (VTC).
Meanwhile, CatSU President, Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza, issued an office order on April 20, directing all those concerned in the university to pool their efforts and support to make the event successful.
Competing SUCs were composed of CatSU as host, Bicol State College of Applied Science and Technology (BisCAST), Bicol University (BU), Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), University of Camarines Norte (UCN), Polytechnic State University of Bicol (PSUB), Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT), Partido State University (PasSU), and Sorsogon State University (SSU).
Winners in the competition will represent Bicol in the National PASUC Culture and Arts festival that will be held later this year. (EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
