DOLE-10 boosts interventions to combat COVID-19 effects

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--Aiding the region's economic recovery amidst COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 steps up measures in employment facilitation, labor education, livelihood intervention, and more.

Highlighting the 120th Labor Day celebration, DOLE-10 Regional Director Albert Gutib said in CORDS-X podcast, May 14, that a total of 122 local emplowers participated in the mega job and business fair where 3,692 jobs were offered, and 400 job orders are offered by the four recruitment agencies for overseas work.

“Kining 122 local employers nga ga-participate, usa kini ka manipestasyon sa atong rehiyon nga gradually naka-recover na ta sa maong pandemya ug hinay-hinay na nga nakabangon ang atong ekonomiya,” Gutib said.

(The participation of the 122 local employers is a manifestation that our region is gradually recovering from the pandemic and our economy is slowly on the rise)

A total of 61 applicants were also hired on the spot during the mega job fair and 581 were considered as near hires.

"Qualified sila sa mao nga vacancy ang gikinahanglan nalang diri ang additional requirements sama sa final interview by the employer and the submission of other employer requirements," Gutib added.

(They are qualified in the said vacancy but they only need additional requirements like the final interview by the employer and the submisstion of other employer requirements)

As for helping the informal sector and eradicating child labor in the region, DOLE-10 provides livelihood assistance to 3,307 beneficiaries through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).

The department was also able to provide emergency employment to 6,636 beneficiaries or families, and almost 20,000 of beneficiries, who are displaced workers due to typhoon Odette, are aided with the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) or emergency employment, Gutib said.

In protecting workers, employers and other stakeholders, DOLE-10 through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-10 holds public hearings on the minimum wage adjustment.

Recently, the RTWPB-10 held the activity where socioeconomic data and other inputs were presented as basis for the board to review, evaluate and decide in the future on what to do on minimum wage in the region.

Aside from the said interventions, DOLE-10 also continues to hold labor education seminars, enforce labor standards, and provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive and accessible settlement procedure of all labor issues through the Single Entry Approach (SEnA). (RTP/PIA-10)
