Lagawe town records one ASF case

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - - Residents of this municipality were cautioned about the presence of a confirmed African Swine Fever (ASF) case in a barangays  here.

Mayor Martin Habawel Jr. issued an advisory temporary banning the entry and delivery out of swine/pig and pork products in Barangay Ponghal until further notice,  to prevent the spread of the disease.

“The laboratory test result of a recent swine death in the said barangay submitted last May 10, 2022 turned positive for ASF,” Habawel said.

The local government unit through the Municipal Agriculture Office, in coordination with all concerned authorities, shall take measures to prevent the further spread of the disease, he assured.

A quarantine checkpoint will be set-up at the entry point to Barangay Ponghal.

All swine raisers are also advised to continue practicing strict bio-security measures and avoid feeding raw swill/food wastes to the pigs.

In case swill food waste be used for feeding, it should be treated through boiling for at least 60 minutes of continuous stirring.

Swine raisers are encouraged to use commercial feeds or self-formulated feeds using conventional and non-conventional feed ingredients sourced out from areas that are not affected with ASF.

Habawel enjoined the public to report any suspicious incidence of pig death   for proper action. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
