NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- Five insurgency-cleared barangays in San Carlos City gets a total of P100-million as Local Government Support Fund- Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
These barangays include Nataban, Quezon, Codcod, Guadalupe and Buluangan which gets P20-million each for farm-to-market road.
San Carlos City mayor Renato Y. Gustilo, with 303rd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Inocencio I. Pasaporte of the Philippine Army and City Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Magnolia B. Antonio, inspected the three road concreting projects in San Carlos City.
Road from proper Nataban to Binone Elementary School Road in Brgy. Nataban is 90 percent complete and estimated to be opened in June 2022 while Sitio Alinga-ob to Balabag Elementary School Road in Barangay Quezon is still on base preparation and Sitio Cabagtasan Road in Barangay Codcod is already 60 percent complete.
These farm to market roads have a total of 4.26 kilometers.
"The role of the AFP is to support the NTF-ELCAC through SBDP in sending out teams to find problems with these affected areas to see the interventions needed. We proposed interventions in terms of development projects and these interventions aimed at addressing the root causes of insurgency such as lack of development projects and poverty, among others,” Pasaporte said.
According to him, under the SBDP, communities cleared of New People's Army influence and presence received five core programs worth P20-million per barangay which include farm-to-market roads, school buildings, water and sanitation systems, livelihood programs and health stations.
