CEZA establishes sanitary landfill

SANTA ANA, Cagayan (PIA) - - To manage well its solid wastes and to comply with standards, the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) has established its own sanitary landfill.

Leonardo Cruz, head technical assistant and officer-in-charge, said, during the filed validation of the members of the Regional Development Council's Project Monitoring Committee, the project which is worth P17 million was funded through CEZA's corporate fund.

The members of the Regional Project Monitoring Committee inspect the newly established Sanitary Landfill of CEZA.

"The construction of the Sanitary Landfill is aimed to develop a system of sanitation, garbage collection and disposition, and to provide a facility that significantly addresses the escalating problem of solid waste in the Freeport Zone," Cruz said.

He also said the landfill will cater to solid wastes of all CEZA locators but they are also open to the LGU of Santa Ana if it wishes to use the facility.

The landfill compound, he added, also has a Material Recovery Facility to process recyclable materials.

The two-hectare facility has also an agricultural zone as they envisioned it to be developed into an agri-educational tourism site in the future.  (OTB/PIA Region 2)
